This article describes the updated TCP/IP
printing
components that are available in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3).
There
are two new registry entries that allow line printer remote (LPR) to
use
any available port higher than 1,023. With these entries, LPR is no
longer
restricted to only using the 11 TCP Ports (721 through 731) and will
not
conflict with reserved ports, even on very busy print servers. This is Microsoft

| With NT Server and NT Workstation, device settings in printer properties on the print server will be reset to default when viewed by the client. |
|
If Windows NT Server and a Windows NT
Workstation
are used in different languages, device settings in the printer
properties are reset to default only by opening the printer properties
on the client (even without changing any settings). For this to happen,
the user must have
the right to change printer settings, for example to be able to change
the
needed paper forms.

| With DDS V2.1, I'm getting alot of Event ID 7016 in NT4
Event ID: 7016 |
|
Hinv32 makes standard Win32 calls to enumerate services. Third-party services may stop or log event ID 7016 when Hinv32 makes a call to the Win32 ControlService function and passes it a SERVICE_CONTROL_INTERROGATE control code. This control code requests the service to update its current status information immediately to Service Control Manager. To work around this behavior, you can disable the enumeration of the Win32_Service class by modifying the Sms_def.mof file and setting the reporting for the Win32_Service class to False. We have seen this with DDS V2.1 This is Microsoft Knowledge Base Document 257509 |
| Cannot Install Service Pack 6/6a with High Encryption Internet Explorer on Windows NT4 |
|
If you attempt to install the
standard-encryption
(or 56-bit) version of Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 or 6a on a Windows
NT 4.0-based computer that already has Microsoft Internet Explorer High
Encryption Pack or Internet Explorer version 5.5 installed, you receive
the following error message:
You have chosen to install a version of the Service Pack with Standard Encryption onto a system with High Encryption. This is not supported. To successfully install this version of the Service Pack, you must install the High Encryption version. Press Help for more information about obtaining the High Encryption Version of this Service Pack. Service Pack Setup will now exit. This issue occurs because the Schannel.dll file that is installed by Microsoft Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack and Internet Explorer 5.5 cannot be overwritten by the service pack installation program. After installing Norton AntiVirus (NAV) 2002 on each
computer,
the network printer located on the hub only prints a page or two
of any print job and then stops. To get the print job to complete,
you must restart the computer that was calling the printer. You
updated to the latest printer drivers for the network printer, but
that does not fix the problem.
